Robyn Robertson
President and CEO
Traffic Injury Research Foundation
Ms. Robyn Robertson is President and CEO of the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF), a charitable, independent road safety institute. TIRF is a world leader in research, safety programs, and policy development.
Robyn first joined TIRF as a Research Assistant in 1999. She was promoted to Research Associate in 2002, and was later promoted to Vice President, Operations, as a result of her strong work attitude and her unrelenting efforts to advance the field of traffic safety.
Career highlights:
- Robyn has worked on numerous projects focusing on impaired driving, repeat offenders, and ignition interlocks. During her career, she has published more that 20 major reports and articles in traffic safety and criminal justice journals.
- Before joining TIRF, Robyn worked for the Solicitor General of Canada and Members of Parliament in the areas of correctional policy and legislation.
- Most notably, she is co-principal investigator of a comprehensive, multi-year study on DWI System Improvements, which aims to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the justice system for dealing with hard core drinking drivers.
- She is coordinator of the Working Group on DWI System Improvements, a U.S. coalition of criminal justice professionals, representing 14 criminal justice organizations. Robyn has also served as faculty at the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada.
- Robyn has made more than 30 presentations at national, state, and local criminal justice and traffic safety conferences, including a criminal justice summit on impaired driving hosted by the National Criminal Justice Association. She has also presented to an expert panel responsible for developing a national curriculum for judges, and served as an expert at a sentencing summit on impaired driving hosted by the National Judicial College.
- Robyn has also developed and maintains an international inventory of ignition interlock programs.
Academic highlights:
- Robyn received her Masters Degree in Criminology and undergraduate degrees from the University of Ottawa. Her professional training also includes a wide range of management and business administration courses.
- Robyn has nine years of experience in the academic field, teaching part-time as her schedule permits at the University of Ottawa, and Algonquin College in Ottawa. Her courses have included: criminological theory, criminal and civil law, the Canadian criminal justice system, victimology, crime prevention, and crime and the media.

- Member of the International Council of Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety (ICADTS);
- Member of the Committee on Alcohol, Other Drugs, and Transportation of the Transportation Research Board (TRB);
- Member of the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA);
- Liaison to the Board of the Association of Transportation Safety Information Professionals (ATSIP).
